Bruton Town in Somerset

Bruton is a small town situated on the River Brue in southeast Somerset. It lies seven miles south-east of Shepton Mallet and ten miles north-west of Gillingham, Dorset. The town currently has a population of about 3,000 people. Bruton railway station lies on the Bristol to Weymouth line. The town's name is thought to derive from 'Briw-tor - Fast Flowing River' and has had several watermills on its banks over the centuries. The town is an excellent base from which to explore the whole of Somerset and Dorset. The city of Bath is just 45 minutes away.
