The historic towns and cities of Axbridge, Cheddar, Glastonbury, Taunton, Bath and Bristol are within good access by car or rail. The seaside towns of Burnham-On-Sea and Weston-Super-Mare are within 20 minute drive. The western edge of the Mendip Hills, known locally as Crooks Peak, rises to the east of the cottage, with the river at its base. The river is approximately 10 metres from the cottage patio. Across the valley, in the far distance, the modern imposition of the M5 motorway weaves across the landscape, bringing together the benefits of the 21st century within an otherwise hidden retreat. You will be ideally situated for a range of activities for anglers, with 250 metres of good river fishing at no extra charge. Horse riding, cycling, walking and golf are all nearby.

A visit to Cheddar Gorge with its quaint town and amazing gorge and caves is a must, as is the Glastonbury Tor and Abbey, and the magnificent cathedral at Wells. Further afield, the cities of Bath and Bristol are within a 30 minute drive.

Burnham-on-Sea is excellent for a family holiday, it has 7 miles of sandy beach ideal for kite flying, sand yachting or just relaxing and making sandcastles. Joining the sand dunes up to Brean Down to the north, overlooking Bridgewater Bay and out to the Bristol Channel, it also has a long promenade with amusements, donkey rides and its own mini pier. Renowned for its many lighthouses dotted around the town and many fishing and boat trips that are available. During November, the area is renowned for its winter carnivals, with spectacular illuminated floats dazzling through the towns and villages. Visit the nature haven of Stert Island or the restored Napoleonic Fort, walk up Brent Knoll for the panoramic views of the Mendip and Quantock Hills, Glastonbury Tor and Cheddar Gorge. Nearby is the Victorian seaside resort of Weston-Super-Mare and Clevedon, the historic city of Wells, Cheddar the home of the world famous cheese, caves and gorge, and Wookey Hole Caves and papermill are worth a day out.
