Wimbleball Lake

The newly renovated facilities at this majestic Lake in Exmoor National Park offer first class facilities both on and off the water.

The Outdoor + Active Centre is open for tuition in various watersports activities including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing. Visitors can also launch their own craft or hire from the centre. Wimbleball is also a premier trout fishery offering angling from the banks and boats. There are often tuition days for beginners and improvers, and further details are posted on our fishing pages. Permits are available on site and boats can be booked in advance. The land surrounding the lake offers miles of footpaths including a 9-mile round Lake walk. The cafe, adjacent to the campsite offers an indoor retreat for light lunches, beverages and snacks whilst the play area is ideal for the younger ones to burn off some energy in the beautiful Exmoor countryside. A campsite overlooks the water and welcomes holidaymakers and participants in watersports courses.

Exmoor Pony Centre

Welcome to the Exmoor Pony Centre, within the heart of the Exmoor National Park. This exciting new project is the culmination of 7 years hard work by The Moorland Mousie Trust, a registered charity dedicated to the promotion and conservation of the Exmoor Pony, currently classified as a rare breed.

The Centre offers half day experiences with the ponies, which include a good two hour ride, giving those competent at walk, trot and canter in open spaces a picturesque hack over Winsford Hill which might take in the ancient Tarr Steps, the spectacular views over the Punch Bowl, or the curious Caractacus Stone, as well as encountering the resident herds of Exmoor ponies, whose ancestors have roamed free for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and much more of the abundant wildlife which makes Exmoor so special. Cost £40 per person. For those aged 10 years and over.

Seaquarium

The Weston-Super-Mare SeaQuarium was opened in 1995, and was placed upon the first seaside pier to be built in Great Britain for over 85 years. Situated on the beach, the aquarium is surrounded by 3 miles of sand along the coast of Somerset, with panoramic views across the estuary of Wales. The centre contains an amazing underwater tunnel, providing visitors with a closer look into the depths of our oceans. With sharks, rays and other creatures swimming gracefully past, just inches away. It doesn’t stop there, with over 25 displays throughout the aquarium, visitors can see the beauty and terror of the oceans creatures, from the severn estuary to the wonders of the rainforest rivers. Our ray zone features an open top display that allows visitors to take a closer look at these graceful creatures as they swim to the surface. You will also have the opportunity to gaze underwater, as the sides of the display are made of a see-through moulded material called acrylic. Live presentations occur at intervals throughout the day, as do our feeding demonstrations. Please listen for the show announcements.
