Stogumber Festival
7th - 9th September
A three day Festival of music for the widest range of tastes. In addition to the main ticketed concerts, there are numerous free performances by specially invited musicians, buskers, Morris men and street entertainers.

Featuring leading classical and folk artists as well as up-and-coming acts, the annual Stogumber Festival is a 3 day celebration of music, dance and the arts to suit the widest range of tastes. In addition to the main concerts there are free performances/gigs that everybody is welcome to attend. The strong folk music line up is topped by the outstanding Cara Dillon who was a 2018 BBC Folk Singer of the Year nominee and won BBC Folk Award Album of the Year in 2010.
Cara will be performing with her husband, the pianist and guitar player Sam Lakeman. Also appearing are Velvet & Stone, a five piece indie folk band recently described as ‘the next big thing on the folk circuit’; new duo Kate Griffin and Ford Collier (as part of The Drystones, Ford was also a 2018 BBC Folk Award nominee); and Gathering Tides, a young, innovative band that weaves together folk, jazz and rock.
The classical programme includes the Mela Guitar Quartet, with a beautifully crafted programme of commissioned works as well as their own transcriptions of familiar pieces, and internationally acclaimed Czech pianist Lada Valešová. Lada will present a musical journey which she calls ‘From Brezhnev to Brexit’. Premiered at the historic Garrick Club, this show combines her considerable skills as both a witty raconteur and virtuoso pianist.
Amongst the free performances will be blues guitarist, Jules Reason and the Stoggymen, an all-male vocal group whose repertoire includes amusing countryside songs and moving sea shanties. Another free session will feature ‘Bollywood and Bhangra’ where everyone can start learning to dance to a variety of Indian music styles including Bhangra, Filmi and Garba – and a dressing up box is likely to be available to help participants get in the mood!
