Introduction into Stargazing Weekend 2015

20th - 22nd February

Experience the Dark Skies of Exmoor National Park led by Steve Owens. Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd February 2015

Introduction into Stargazing Weekend 2015

Early February is the perfect time for stargazing in Exmoor Dark Sky Reserve, when the skies darken at 7pm, staying pitch black until the Moon rises after midnight.

On display are Orion the Hunter high in the south, with Jupiter sitting above his head, and the Andromeda Galaxy in the west, the most distant object visible to the naked eye, a giant galaxy containing a trillion stars. And from horizon to horizon is the Milky Way, our own galaxy stretching in an arc only visible in places like Exmoor which are virtually free of light pollution.

Charge for the break, inclusive of Dinner, Bed, Breakfast, Transport to and from the Exmoor National Park Dark Sky Reserve and all talks and lectures from Steve Owens is £220 per person. A deposit is required of £50 per person. Special offer extra nights available at £60 DB&B per person.

Steve Owens is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS), in 2010 was awarded the Campaign for Dark Skies' annual award in recognition of his work on dark sky protection, and was named "Astronomer of the Year" by the Federation. Steve is also the author of “Stargazing for Dummies”

Exmoor has some of the best dark skies in the whole of Great Britain and the dates have been chosen to maximise the solar spectacle. A starlit evening on Exmoor will be an awe inspiring event that you could never experience in a city.

The weekend will be informative for all. If you have an interest for stargazing but never know where to look and what to look for, this is your chance to gain professional knowledge. Steve gives his talks with beginners in mind giving everyone a great start in the fascinating hobby of stargazing in an amazing dark sky reserve like Exmoor.

Please book direct with hotel, this break is unavailable to book online. Your deposit is non-refundable but in the event of a cancellation may be transferred by you to a substitute new attendee on the weekend.
