W-S-M Sand Bay

W-S-M Sand Bay beach, Somerset

Sand Bay lies just to the north of Weston-super-Mare between Birnbeck Island in the south and Sand Point in the north. Consisting of sand and shingle, the beach has a saltmarsh at the northern end, adjacent to the National Trust headland of Sand Point.

Facilities include shops, toilets, disabled toilets, the Sand Bay Holiday Park and a campsite. The beach is regularly cleaned, as required. There is free car parking for approximately 100 cars. Dogs are allowed here all year round.

Easily accessible, activities at Sand Bay include swimming and fishing, with walks around the Weston Woods (South of Sandbay). Sand Point and Middle Hope (National Trust land for Sand Bay).

The beach is noted for its diverse bird population, its saltmarsh and sand dune communities and looks west to the island of Flat Holm in the middle of the Severn Estuary. Flat Holm is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Local Nature Reserve and can be visited from Weston-super-Mare on organised boat trips.
