Burnham-on-Sea

Burnham-on-Sea main beach lies north of the concrete pier or jetty and runs in a northwesterly direction to its junction with Berrow Flats near Maddocks Slade.

Predominantly sandy, the beach has good facilities with a range of shops and cafés close by. It has Lifeguard cover in season, who operate the usual FLAG system indicating when and where it is safe to bathe or swim. The Tourist Information Centre lies near the BARB Search and Rescue Station just south of the jetty on South Esplanade, and parking is available on the seafront.

This is a good beach for swimming and paddling with donkey rides and entertainment in the summer. Boats and jet skis can also launch.

A seasonal dog ban is in force here with dogs not allowed between Maddocks Slade and the Yacht Club between May 1st and September 30th inclusive.

Burnham has the second greatest rise and fall of tide in the world - after the Bay of Fundy in Canada - and therefore the strong currents make it unsafe to swim except from approximately two hours before high tide until two hours after. Red flags will be flown to warn water users of the possible dangers.
