This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike.

Porlock Weir Beach

A northeast facing pebble beach some 4 miles long. The beach comprises of a shingle ridge of considerable archaeological and geographical significance. There is a submerged forest off the coast and fabulous marshland behind the beach which is home to numerous birds. The water quality in 2011 was MCS Recommended as measured by the Marine Conservation Society. Local facilities include food, toilets, disabled toilets and shops. The beach is cleaned regularly. Porlock Weir is popular for swimming, fishing, surfing and sailing, but please note, that there is no zoning for water sports. The South West Coastal Path passes through Porlock Weir, with many footpaths and walks across Exmoor. There is 'Pay and Display' car parking for about 60 cars, with some disabled spaces.
