The Museum of Somerset, which is located in Taunton Castle, is free to enter and is open from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday and on Bank Holiday Mondays.
The Museum opened to the public on Thursday 29 September 2011, following a £6.93m redevelopment.
With many new galleries to explore, and extraordinary objects to discover, the Museum of Somerset is a must-see visitor attraction for people of all ages from across Somerset and beyond.
Amongst the treasures on display for the first time is the Frome Hoard, the largest collection of Roman coins ever discovered in a single container in Britain, and which was saved for the nation following a national fundraising appeal.
A shrunken head from South America and Judge Jeffreys' medical bill are a few of the many other new exhibits to be discovered in the new museum.
The redevelopment of Taunton Castle and the Museum was funded by a £4.8 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, £1.8 million from Somerset County Council and significant donations from Viridor Credits Environmental Company, The Garfield Weston Foundation, Somerset Military Museum Trust, and the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society.
